The Cadet Programs

The Sea Cadet Program (ages 12 through 18), is a partnership between the Department of National Defence (DND) and the Navy League of Canada. DND officers supervise and conduct training of the cadets, supply uniforms, training aids, transportation to and from training venues, operate summer training establishments and allow for the use of facilities where there is a DND presence.

The Navy League of Canada and its local branches (Lanark) steps in for the non-DND sponsored training, extracurricular programs, citizenship projects, ceremonies and other events. The Lanark Branch is also responsible for supplying the building for training.

The Navy League Cadet program (ages 9 through 13) is the sole responsibility of the Navy League of Canada. Expenses for uniforms for officers and cadets, facilities, training aids and all support comes from the local branch (Lanark). As well, required officer training and incidental expenses (accommodation, meals and transportation), are expenses assumed by the Navy League.

Navy League cadet officers are strictly volunteers and receive no honorarium. They are issued a Navy League warrant with appropriate rank during their tenure with the Navy League Cadet corps. Should they retire or move to another corps, their warrant is returned to the corps.

The Navy League recognizes its obligations within the community. It encourages the cadet corps to be available for projects of a citizenship nature within the towns from which the cadets are drawn. These towns include Almonte, Carleton Place, Perth and Smith Falls. We also have cadets from elsewhere in the community such as West Ottawa, Lanark, McDonalds Corners, Lanark, Pakenham, Clayton, Franktown, Mississippi Mills and Westport. Some of the community projects cadets participate in are Poppy Sales, Remembrance Parades, Ceremony of the Bells, local Santa Claus Parades and others.
