News Archives - 06/07 Training Year

July/Aug 2006

In addition to attending summer camps at HMCS Acadia, Ontario, and Quadra, Cadets from RCSCC Lanark also participated in some special events during the summer.  Please check out the Photo Gallery for pictures of these events.

-Five of our cadets volunteered to assist with the CERV during Canada Day celebrations in Carleton Place.  The cadets helped with First Aid and were on standby for missing children.

-CPO2 Freill spent six weeks on the Canadian Coast Guard Ship Henry Larsen this summer conducting an arctic patrol.  She had a chance to visit places such as Nunavut and Greenland. 

-QPO1 Forgie also spent some time at sea this summer, aboard the US Naval Sea Cadet Ship Greyfox.  They conducted training in the great lakes area and visited Michigan and Ontario 

-PO2 Dunphy spent ten days at a training camp in northern Ontario with the Junior Canadian Rangers.  They learned bushcraft, canoeing, and marksmanship.

Sept 2006

3rd - Cadets from Lanark attended the National Memorial Ceremony commemorating the contribution of the Merchant Navy during WWII.  Photos

9-10th - First weekend back to cadets is normally a weekend for all our senior cadets, this year was no different.  Our seniors spent a weekend learning leadership and instructional techniques, in addition to having a little fun.  Photos

17th - Sail training was conducted at the Nepean Sail Centre.  Alot of our cadets received their qualifications in both White Sail Level I & II.  Congrats to all!  Photos

22-24th - Our first ever JOINT outdoor weekend.  This year we conducted our training in conjunction with RCSCC(s) Centurion, Defiant, Hood, Skeena, and Viking.  In total there were a little over 160 people (cadets & staff) on the ground in our training area in Westport.  Although it was a little wet, it was a valuable experience.  Photos

Oct 2006

10th - QPO1 Forgie is attending a ten day cruise on board the destroyer, HMCS Algonquin.  During her stay she will integrate into the ship's company, standing watches side by side with the members of the ship's crew.  The ship is conducting operations  through the inside passage between mainland BC, and Vancouver Island.

14th - Cadets spent the day "tagging" as a fundraiser for our Navy League branch.  A little over $5000 was raised to help provide funding to the cadet programs. Photos

21st - Eight of our cadets traveled to Kingston, Ontario to take part in the Eastern Ontario Area Orienteering Competition.  This was a first for Lanark, and our team performed great as usual.  CPO2 Freill, QPO1 Ward, QPO1 Nontell, and AC Denief were successful in winning spots on the area team.  These cadets will travel on to the provincial competition which will be held in April 2007.  Photos

25th - Cadets Igarik and Sawyerr attended the Governor General's Ceremony for the presentation of the first poppy for this year.  Photo

28th - This year's Halloween dance was held at the corps.  There were alot of imaginative costumes.  A great time was had by both the Navy League, and Sea, cadets.  Photos.

28th - Five Lanark cadets volunteered to assist the Nepean Sail Centre remove their sailboats from the water.  A wet day, but lots of fun too!  Photos

Nov 2006

2nd - Ceremonial Divisions were held tonight, with a special guest.  LCdr Scammell, Executive Officer of the summer training centre in Kingston, visited and spoke with the cadets on camp issues.  He also had the opportunity to promote some of our deserving cadets.  Congratulations to all who received their new ranks.  Photos

4th - Cadets assisted the Carleton Place and Almonte Branches of the Royal Canadian Legion with poppy sales at various businesses throughout the communities.  The legion also graciously donated $1000 dollars towards our trip to Halifax in March.  Photo

5th - Cadets took part in the Ceremony of Remembrance in Lanark Village. Photos

6-7th - For the kick-off of Remembrance Week, our cadets were involved in the official Senate ceremony on Monday, and also attended the annual Candlelight Ceremony on Tuesday.  Cadets were paired with veterans for a candlelight procession to commemorate the passing of the torch to Canada's youth.  Photos

11-12th - A very busy end to the week as we took part in four separate parades (Carleton Place, Perth, Beckwith, and Almonte) on Saturday, and another small ceremony in the Village of Munster on Sunday.  Photos 

18-19th - RCSCC Lanark's 2nd Annual Marksmanship Competition took place over this weekend.  Cadets honed their shooting skills with two days of coaching and practice.  Congratulations to all those that achieved their marksmanship levels.  Photos

25th -  Carleton Place's annual Santa Clause Parade took place tonight, and cadets provided a band and color party to the parade.  Photos

Dec 2006

4-5th - Santa Clause Parades continued this weekend with an afternoon parade in Sharbot Lake, and an evening parade in Perth, on Saturday.  We also attended the Almonte parade on Sunday afternoon.

7th - This evening was our camp information night.  Cadets and parents were given information on attending camps next summer, and filled out their applications.  A few of our senior cadets were presented their Cadets Service Medals tonight, and A/SLt Braet was presented his commissioning scroll.  Photos

21st - Cadets attended Christmas Dinner tonight.  This was a semi-formal event, and the cadets were served their supper by the officers and staff.  OC Latreille-Vieira was promoted to LT(N), and assumed the duties of commanding Officer for the evening.  Photos

Jan 2007

6th - Lanark held another successful bottle drive to help raise funds for the Halifax trip. In total, we raised almost $1100 dollars.

13-14th - RCSCC Lanark hosted a band workshop for Ottawa area cadet corps.  Cadets from Falkland, Lanark, and Centurion were in attendance under the tutelage of staff from HMCS Ontario school of music.

26-28th - Ten cadets from Lanark competed in the zone biathlon competition.  Our corps took home the gold medals in the Junior male and female categories, along with the Silver medal for female relay and bronze for male relay.  LC Snyder, LC Lewis, PO2 Needham, and PO2 Poirier were selected to move on to the Provincial competition.  Photos

Feb 2007

9-11th - Provincial Biathlon Competition. Four Lanark cadets have moved on to the next level of competition, held in Sault Ste. Marie.  Although we didn't do as well as our previous competition, it was indeed a good learning experience for next year. Photos

17th - Zone Marksmanship Competition. Team members competed at the competition in Ottawa.  We placed fourth in the tri-service zone, but were the top sea cadet corps.

Mar 2007

Mar 3-4th - Flotilla Seamanship/Drill competition in Cornwall.  Lanark placed in the top three for all but two of the events over the weekend.  Our flag hoist team will be proceeding to the provincial competition held the end of April in Trenton.  Photos

April 2007

Apr. 20-21st - Provincial Orienteering Competition.  Five Lanark cadets traveled to Borden to compete.  Although they never earned any medals, they put forth an awesome effort.

May 2007

May 6th - RCSCC Lanark traveled to Ottawa to participate in the annual Battle of the Atlantic commemorations.

May 24th - Awards night was held at the corps and winners of some of this years awards were presented.  The remaining award will be held at the Annual Inspection.  Congratulations to all those who received awards and promotions.  Photos Soon

May 27th - RCSCC Lanark took part in the Annual "Ceremony of the Bells" in Almonte.  During this parade PO2 Tara Needham was awarded the Royal Canadian Legion Medal of Excellence by Defence Minister the Honorable Gordon O'Connor, for her dedication and community service.  Photos Soon

June  2007

Jun 1-3rd - In conjunction with the Annual Inspection, RCSCC Lanark celebrated it's fortieth anniversary with a reunion weekend.  Former cadets, staff members, and even former members of the original HMCS Lanark attended the festivities.  Please check out the link on the left of the page for more info on the reunion.  Click here for photos of the Annual.
